Description

During the 1930s and 40s, a candle lantern tour of the Big Room, leading to The Rock of Ages, became a traditional ceremony. Even a hymn was created especially for the occasion. The tour was then prohibited beginning around 1950 due to a decision made in National Park Headquarters. Fortunately, the new generation of National Park Rangers has brought back the re-creation of this historic tour. On the evening I took the tour, the lady Ranger at the end of the procession sang the hymn for us as the Rock of Ages came into view.
